NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center

The CRESST II cooperative agreement is between the five partner organizations and the Sciences and Exploration Directorate within NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt Maryland. The Sciences and Exploration Directorate (SED) is the largest Earth and space science research organization in the world. Its scientists advance understanding of the Earth and its life-sustaining environment, the Sun, the solar system, and the wider universe beyond. A hallmark of the SED is its history of involvement in the full life-cycle of scientific endeavor, i.e.: defining fundamental research questions; developing experimental concepts; designing needed technology and scientific instruments; fabricating/testing instrumentation; integrating the instruments with balloons, sounding rockets, and spacecraft; flying and operating the spacecraft/instruments; receiving experiment data/results; processing data; and analyzing the results. Researchers in the Sciences and Exploration Directorate work with engineers, computer programmers, technologists, and other team members to develop the cutting-edge technology needed for space-based research. Education and Communication programs explain the science to students and to the general public.
