SURA plays an important role within the CRESST II partnership. In addition to employing students and faculty at our partner universities who work on medium-to-long term appointments on-site at NASA/GSFC, SURA leads CRESST II's effort to establish and enhance collaborative activities that NASA/GSFC needs with the external scientific and technical communities in order to maintain the successful conduct of its research and development mission. SURA runs CRESST II's scientific visitor and summer intern programs, as well as administers scientific colloquia, seminars, and summer schools.

As a consortium of over 60 leading research universities, SURA’s mission is to advance collaborative research and education and to strengthen the scientific capabilities of its members and our nation. SURA does so by fostering collaboration among member universities to enhance their capabilities in undertaking significant, transformative scientific research projects. SURA is driven to promote and support scientific discovery that pushes the frontiers of knowledge and impacts lives and communities, while supporting a public service model that keeps our nation’s best interests in mind and contributes to the greater good.
