CRESST RETREAT: INTRODUCTION & OBJECTIVES

The Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology (CRESST) is a collaboration between the NASA/GSFC Sciences & Exploration Division, The University of Maryland College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). CRESST brings together NASA/Goddard researchers and scientists from the Maryland campuses and USRA to build upon the many capabilities and strengths in space science of the participating organizations. Quality science and effective collaboration are the top priorities for our team as we develop the Center.

The objectives of the retreat, which is the seventh in a series of annual events, are to:

  • Bring together researchers and graduate students in the fields of Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Planetary Science, from all CRESST institutions to stimulate and/or develop scientific collaborations and a better mutual awareness.
  • Review the overall Space Science research climate.
  • Review opportunities & developments related to a sample of active missions, new mission/concept proposals, research results, and/or research groups associated with one or more of the four CRESST partner institutions.
  • Provide a forum for CRESST scientists and management to review accomplishments and explore ideas for improving the CRESST research environment, career opportunities, as well as the underlying operating procedures.
